‘Cabaret’: A message from your Director and Musical Director

‘Cabaret’:  A message from your Director and Musical Director

Contrary to the vicious rumours being circulated by ill-informed students, the show has not already been cast.
As is the case every year, we allocate roles based solely on potential seen at audition.

Whilst we may have ideas about what students may work well in what roles when we select a show, there has never been a TCC show where these initial ideas translate to the final casting.   For example, we initially thought there was no way Robbie could work as Javert in Les Miserables until his excellent audition proved otherwise; in our WWRY main cast 5 students completely surprised us at audition (we had not considered them at all for any main roles) and they rightfully earned their places whilst other students showed they would work better in different roles; conversely, students who we thought would work in lead roles showed through audition that this was not the case as other people were stronger.

We believe a misunderstanding may have arisen regarding the involvement of the year 12 performing arts students.  The current year 12 PA students will be involved in the production in some way (for their unit 5/6 exam) however this will not necessarily be in a main role: they could be dancers, supporting cast members, in the band or could even be involved in the technical side.  For performance roles, they will be expected to audition like everyone else.

We would appreciate it if any gossip could end now as it does disservice to students who will earn their roles legitimately through the audition process.  Any further gossip will be seen as sour grapes and this is not something we want in our company.
If you have any questions, please direct them to Ms Scurrell or Mrs Hollocks directly to ensure you get the facts.

Thank you
